Mk. 4.5 spun up its motor for the first time in months with only minor modifications to the wiring harness. Electric vehicles are awesome.

Off-season update

Hello everyone, an update has been a long time coming. Sadly Mk.4's battery died over the winter. This was a somewhat planned event though, as the RC lipo cells we were using live hard and fast, and we were able to get more then three years of lifespan out of them, from Mk.2 thru Mk.4.

For some good news, A good friend of the team has donated battery packs to us, and we have been hard at work designing a new frame around these new batteries. We are calling this frame Mk 4.5, as it re-uses alot of parts from Mk.4. The swingarm, motor, fork, wheelset and controller are moving over, and a new frame and Britten V1000 inspired linkage rear shock are in progress right now.

Here are some images of the progress to date.

End of Season Track Day

The last day of riding season had to come around sometime. We were fortunate to have such a great final day at MACtrack! Jackson was able to borrow a pair of leathers and ride Mk. 4 on the track for the first time. We also had the chance to get some very useful information on the tires we should be using. The Dunlop racing slicks we had been using were just too hard of a compound for our lightweight bike to keep warm, so we experimented with a set of DOT approved tires and a pair of rain tires (donated by one of the awesome supermoto guys we've gotten to know this year!). The rain tires ended up being the best gripping tire we have ever used, and made a significant improvement in the bike's ability to handle cornering at high speeds. Learning all of this before the end of the season will be critical for the upcoming "build season" for the next race bike (more details to come).

Sorting Out Problems the Old Fashioned Way

The Race bike also does double-duty as a commuter in the off season. Great way to find out the problems in the long-term. Like wheel bearing failures from crushed axle supports.

New Website Address

The team website has a new address, farfleracing.com, and the bike now has homemade vinyl decals for it. Special thanks to Don at Tekbots for letting us use their stencil cutter!
